The 32X bolted two 32-bit SH-2 processors onto a Mega Drive in 1994 as a stopgap before the Saturn. It was abandoned within a year, but its short library includes a strong Doom port, Virtua Racing Deluxe and Knuckles Chaotix.
The 32X requires two SH-2 cores emulated alongside the Mega Drive itself, which is a real load for the RK3326 โ expect frame drops in the 3D titles, while 2D games such as Knuckles Chaotix fare better. R36 Max/Ultra (RK3566) handles most of the library.
The R36 handheld family runs Sega 32X titles with limited compatibility out of the box.
